wonderful input during the stay in Toronto

During our visit in Toronto and Oakville we had the possibility to see wonderful exhibition.
Most impressed I was by the World of Thread exhibition: "Quiet Zone" The Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Park, Oakville.

                                          view into the exhibition

Marjolein Dallinga, exhibition: de rerum natura
                                                   - I love the colour, the way of making - the joy in life

                                                    Wendy O'Brien, exhibtion: Momento mori

I felt so deeply impressed - and now I think I know more about why - the bird, the cage the nest inside, the end and at the same time the new beginning I love this piece. The deep humor and the knowledge about things..................
I did a leporello with a similiar theme - birds were stitched and could fly away into a new live....

Just some more photos from the town, museums.........

It was a wonderful time with my husband, looking at all these wonderful places, to meet our group, feeling coming together....

pieces from the Textile Museum, Toronto and the Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto

                                         town - shops - eating - color - life ...................................

and wonderful inuit art:

BA London - Toronto exhibition - Herxheim, Germany exhibition

now 5 month are gone and a lot of things happened.
In June my degree show opened at Middlesex University London. After 6 years distance learning my student group and I installed the BA show in the University Gallery.
I have to thank my children who helped to instal my flying family tree and preparing the exhibition space.

                                                    "flying family tree", Monika Brückner
                                                    June 2012

I feel very proud having achieved a first degree at the end. The interview was very interesting and I could provide links to the Documenta 2012 in Kassel, Germany and it´s theme about memory, the possibility to come over hurtings and finding new ways.

After this intensive time of studying I had to order my home and install my speech therapy office again.

In the end of October 2012 my student group and I were invited to present our work during the world of thread festival in Oakville, Canada in the Town Hall.

My husband came with me to help to install - but we had totally other options for presenting. Here the solution - which satisfied myself at the end. It brought a bigger distance to the piece itself, made it more common and I feel now there can be developed a new piece for the future.

                                                    "Flying Family Tree 2-Toronto"
                                                    Monika Brückner, November 2012

The acrylic cubes formed a distance to the piece, the inner meaning at to myself. But it was the first time we had the possibility to look into the vessels and look into their inner live.

The next exhibition will be in Herxheim, Germany my hometown. Two of the Candian girls will come over and most of the English artists. We will celebrate our group "continuum".

Now I have to begin to think about PRISM London 2013 with the theme: "liminal".

5 weeks till the BA show

Doing the last vessels I become a bit nervous. Will the installation work like I have it in my mind? The definitely security about this is definitely given in London in the gallery.

What will come afterwards - provide the memory work a possibility for future ideas? Paper - printed - stitched.....? who knows.

Let´s start the finish!!

no PRISM but concentration to BA show

The decision to cancel PRISM is a good one. The wanted theme "hidden places" would need a change in the developed vessels - but they have to be like they are.

So I started to stitch the first vessel for the family tree - my grand grand mothers (fathers side). By the research to her person it get obvious there are no items - no memories than some photos. There she is sitting in a wheel chair in the 30th of the last century. Short time later she died at blood anemia. Even my aunt - her grand daughter has no memories. She only remembers her grand father - a very polite man - and the knowing they had a good relationship.

The stitching was formed by this emptiness - little stitches - going out of the form - a wheel chair?!?
I will let it grow a bit more and than start the next one.

These experiences underline the important knowing that it is absolute necessarily to remember to understand the present and form the future.

The 27. January was the memorial day of the liberation of Auschitz. In the German Bundestag Marcel Reich Ranicki hold a speech about his experiences during being the secretary of the obman in the Warschauer Ghetto. This was a deep impression. 91 years old he is one of the last survivals of the Holocaust. His profession was literature ciritc and writer.
He wrote his memories which were filmed for the TV. Here a photo from the film with Matthias Schweighöfer.

Will go on working .......

assessment and Prism 2012

the last assessment result came shortly before Christmas. I feel very proud done such a work under the circumstances of the new job and less time which had to be very well organized.

Now the Prism exhibition 2012 is the next event and I have to work to the theme `hidden places´. Therefore I want to refine my soul vessels.
Here the first result:

This piece feels childishly - a little pocket in the inside. The graveness and simplicity get lost. I will go on working to find the hidden places in the vessels.

This morning I saw an art film from agnes varda. She met Annette Messager and Boltanski for lunch.
Both artists I love. For my final BA exhibition in June I will examine further Messager´s way of installation.

Also Cornelia Parker uses hanging constructions for her work. Her work is also very inspiring.

Tomorrow we will visit Fondation Beyerle in Bale, Switzerland. Louise Bourgeois work is exhibited in rethinking her 100 birthday.

Tate shot

the Tate newsletter presented a short film about Andy Goldsworthy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DjCMqtJr0Q&feature=digest_sat

He says: "its interesting to observe as an artist" The material goes his own way. When I do my paper vessels - I have to react to the material - the material itself shows the way what is possible.

Also the slowness in this way of working: to observe, to reflect - meditative aspects is very inspiring.

my first posting

a new experience to blog - but it´s good to start.

some words to my person: I´m a German student with University of Middlesex, London doing the BA(Hons)embroidery. My student group and I will finish our studies in June 2012 with an exhibition in the university gallery.

Yesterday I send my work to the second last moderation. As every time it was a bit stress but at the same time I felt satisfied with the work. Of course there are things to refine further but it´s good for the moment.

In May 2012 I hope to exhibit as a member of the PRISM textile group in London, Mall Gallery.

semi transparent vessel, November 2011

Edmund de Waal is one of the artists who inspired my last work. He is a well known ceramic and now also an author. Karla Black the Turner Prize winner 2011 as well as Eva Hesse have influence to my own work.
