I decided to try using a size ca. 15x10 cm for each brick. I think this decision was unconcious. But this film about Valéries work and  influence to my size decision.

Nachdem ich auf youtube einen Film über Valerie Mréjen (war mir bis dahin unbekannt) gesehen habe, über die Art und Weise, wie sie persönliche und allgemein zugängliche Erinnerungen in ihren Arbeiten durch Postkarten und Film für ihre Kunst umfunktioniert, habe ich mich wohl eher unbewusst für eine neue Größe der Karton Mauersteine entschieden. 15x10 cm ist jetzt die Ausgangsgröße.

There shoud be 5 or 6 rows out of card board bricks....
Es sollten ungefähr 5 bis 6 Reihen aus Karton Steinen sein....

The idea arose to show a second standing piece so I would have a broken side and a healed one....same structure but using the colours, symbols form the new built Cathedral, churches.
Have to do research ... trying to find new material for stitching angels; inspirations are these from John Hutton at Coventry Cathedral

Plötzlich hatte ich die Idee hinter der ersten verwundeten Mauer eine zweite aufzustellen, die die geheilte darstellt. Hier könnte ich Bezug auf die Farben, Materialien und Symbolen der neuen Kathedralen und Kirchen aufnehmen; John Hutton´s Engel des Westflügels der kathedrale könnten eine Inspiration sein.

We will exhibit in the Chapelle Christ the Servant from 12 April 2018 till 24 May 2018. Title will be: Mend
Wir werden vom 12. April 2018 bis zum 24. Mai 2018 gemeinsam in der Kapelle Jesus der Gottesknecht ausstellen. Titel: Heilen, Reparieren, Ausbessern

By the given title and the way of presenting the works on 2 plinth in size: 40x40 cm 90 cm hight I had the idea to use bandaging material to stitch on, used board, photos etc.
Durch den Titel der Ausstellung sowie durch die Art und Weise wie die Arbeiten präsentiert werden (Stelen 40x40x90 cm) hatte ich die Idee Verbandsmaterial und Themen rund um körperliche Wunden für meine Arbeit einzusetzen. Material sind zudem Photos, gebrauchte Kartons, Stickerei.....

Further experiments are necessary...... but I´m on the way.
Weitere Experimente sind unbedingt notwendig.....aber ich bin auf dem Weg.

The board pieces stand for the brocken bricks of English and German destroyed Cathedrals, Churches. I will try to bind them and form a 3D standing piece which can be viewed from both sides.
Die Karton Stücke stehen für die gebrochenen, kaputten Mauersteine der zerstörten englischen und deutschen Kathedralen und Kirchen.

This way of binding is too rough and huge. It should be more delicate, fine....thin stitching - experiments are needed.
Diese Art der Verbindung scheint mir zu rauh, groß und grob. Sie müssen zärter, feiner mit dünnen Stichen gemacht sein - weitere experimente sind notwendig.

After intensive family time I´m back at creative work.
Nach intensiver Familienzeit in den letzten 3 Monaten bin ich zurück in der kreativen Arbeit.

I picked up colored textiles out of my boxes - these I collected a long time ago, built three different stacks and started to collage....
Ich habe farbige Textilien aus meinen Kisten ohne zu überlegen herausgenommen - diese habe ich schon lange Zeit in meiner Sammlung, habe 3 verschiedene Stapel aufgehäuft und habe angefangen textile Collagen zusammenzustellen

Work in progress.....stitches have to be added. I love to sit and doing the stitching, the slow process gives me calmness.
Dies ist eine Arbeit, die noch nicht fertig ist.....Stiche müssen weiter ergänzt werden. Ich liebe es zu sitzen, zu sticken. Der langsame Prozess gibt mir Ruhe.

It was an inner wish to build up nests, bowls, containers.....and I don´t want to add something more at this piece.
Es war ein innerer Wunsch Nester, Schalen und Behälter zu formen....auf dieser Schale möchte ich nichts weiter ergänzen.

Emptiness and Filling at the same time. Leere und Fülle at the same time.


Out of the second stock a landscape form appears....a story ......own and found photos printed onto fabric....a father with his baby on escape....the baby sleeps in total trust on the back of his father. He carries everything you need to survive...solar, bowls....etc.

Aus dem zweiten Stapel schält sich ein Querformat....eine Erzählung heraus......Eigene Fotos auf Stoff und ein gefundenes Foto von einem Vater mit Kind auf der Flucht....Das Kind in vollem Vertrauen schläft auf dem Rücken des Vaters. Er trägt alles, was fürs Leben notwendig ist.

A third one - night, shinning, secret, eggs, feathers....not really clear why, but this one is more like a birth of myself....beginning to fly ....
Needs to be refined..but I feel so happy to be creative again - all these personal and common symbols...
Eine dritte Arbeit - Nacht, Glitzern, Geheimnis, Eier, Federn.....Ich weiß nicht genau warum, aber diese Arbeit fühlt sich eher wie eine Geburt meines kreativen Selbst an.....ich fange an zu fliegen...
Auch diese Arbeit muss noch verfeinert werden..Aber ich bin so glücklich wieder kreativ sein zu können - all diese persönlichen und allgemeinen Symbole!

Nest that doesn´t cradle

The nest is linked to the atmosphere in post-war Germany, which was mirrored in family lives and their way to communicate. Growing up in a non-communicative family warmth and safety were lacking. So the form and the material of the huge flying nest refer to these circumstances. The windings with thread are the scarfs of the pain that was felt.

It meant a long journey, a huge effort and a deep thought process to acquire the knowledge needed to create this cellophane nest which did not cradle. At the end of my MA I am able to leave the nest, start to fly and embark upon a new stage of life.

Validiction Room

This week I had the opportunity to visit the final valediction room and made photos of my work.

"Death - Farewell - Beginning" is installed at the wall with indirect light. The deceased lays on the wooden framed catafalque - feet beyond the middle part of the textile work.
The hole room is very calm with warm atmosphere.
I feel satisfied with the result.
